MONSTER ENERGY RX CARTEL 2022: A SHOCK TO THE SYSTEM

May 182022

Sit down, plug in, shut up and hold on. The Monster Energy RX Cartel is ready to shock the system. With a fresh face in the team, two custom built 1000bhp all electric rallycross cars, and the challenge of an all-new global race programme in the Nitro RX series; it’s the perfect storm you’ve all been waiting for.

Let’s face it, rallycross is in need of a shake up, and with the motorsport world back at full throttle; with fans packing back into venues and racing going live at all of our favorite circuits; the RX Cartel has been waiting for the opportunity to blaze a trail once more.

Triple European RX champion and 2019 Word RX vice champion Andreas Bakkerud is back in action with the Cartel family. As the saying goes, once you’re in, you’re in for life.

Bakkerud said: “It’s go time. I’m excited to hit the track again with the RX Cartel. We have a huge new challenge ahead of us, with ten rounds of Nitro RX across the globe and a 1000bhp all electric car to take the fight to the competition with. It’s going to be an insane year, and I can't wait to show you all what we have in store.”

Although this is technically Robin Larsson’s second season as a RX Cartel driver, the brand new season of all-electric Nitro RX ahead feels like something of a fresh start. Not that Larsson could be considered anything close to a rookie. The 29 year old Swedish racer is a certified rallycross badass - he’s got over 70 event starts at FIA European and World level championships to his name, and better still was crowned FIA ERX Supercar champion in 2014, with a running score of six wins and three podiums. He’s the son of a double European champion too - so when we say the guy has racing in his blood, we ain’t lying.

Larsson said: “It’s incredibly exciting to take on the challenge of Nitro this year with the RX Cartel. Last season Liam [Doran] and I battled hard in Supercars in the US, and it was a blast. Having Andreas as a team-mate this year will be super fun and I’m sure we are going to push each other all the way. Switching all electric this year will be an awesome challenge for sure. I just can't wait to get out there, smoke some tyres and put on a show for the fans.”

Just because he isn’t racing, doesn't mean he’s out. You know the rules - once you are in, you’re in for life. The OG RX racer Liam Doran is back in 2022 to balance out the shock of electric - with a heady dose of petrol and turbos - all for your viewing pleasure. Whether its drift, rally, RX or hillclimb, you can be sure that Liam will be behind the wheel this season to limiter bash and bring some much needed chaos within a far too well behaved motorsport world.

Doran said: “Nitro and electric looks insane this year, and I know Andreas and Robin are going to slay. I’m not ready to make the move yet - and have unfinished business with my ‘older’ race cars. We’ve got some big plans for this year and beyond, which I’m excited to share.”

The first race of the season starts at Lydden Hill in the UK on June 18-19.
