LEWIS HAMILTON TALKS F1 2019

Aug 052019

Lewis Hamilton begins his summer vacation today after a sensational start to his Formula One Drivers Championship title defence.

Eight victories in the opening 12 races has seen the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport Team driver open up a 62 point lead at the top of the table ahead of his Silver Arrows teammate, Valtteri Bottas. The eighth win came last weekend at the Hungarian Grand Prix and was the British racer's 81st victory in F1 and his seventh at the Hungaroring.

"In the past, I have gone into the break feeling 100 percent fit, and I could go and party for multiple days and then go into recovery," says Lewis. "But I am not in that place at the moment, I have got to really focus. I have been fit all year but I need to get my energy up after this bug.

"It really did wipe me out, so in this break I have, I am fully focused on real recovery, which is a bit of a change from my normal break. I also want to spend some time with my family and, I am a bit of a night owl and like to stay up late, so I want to try and focus on shifting that so I can wake up at sunrise.

"I might also try some meditation. I want to try a few different things to have a healthier life style. I am going to read a bit too.”

"What's great within in this team is that we are never complacent," admits Lewis. "We always arrive with the same mentality. We have had all this success but we all continue to work just as hard. No one is better than anyone else. These eight wins are exceptional but you still have to deliver. But I look at those races, and I think eight out of 12, and I think there are still some missing. How did we miss those? It just shows how on the edge we all are.

"I truly think the second half of the season could be much, much harder for us in that we have this battle. We still have a good package and we have to continue to deliver and I am looking forward to that.”

Lewis is now in his 13th season in F1 and the third oldest driver on the grid. However, he says he has no plans to call it a day just yet as he loves the thrill and excitement driving for the Mercedes AMG Petronas Motorsport team and insists they have more to win together.

Lewis said: "I don't know why some people decided to stop at the times they stop, but I tell you, I really love driving.

"I love the challenge and arriving each weekend and digging into the data and lifting the team up.

"I love the rapport I have with this group of people and one day I will have to stop, but right now I feel fantastic physically and mentally. I currently don't have any plans on stopping any time soon. There is more to win and more to achieve together both inside and outside of the car.”

The F1 season resumes after the summer break with the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa Francorchamps on September 1st.
