Marini moves and Rins resurrection adds to magic 2019 Mugello MotoGP

Jun 032019

MotoGP at Mugello: wow. Half a second between four riders, three racers tipping into the first corner on the final lap side-by-side, smoke flares, burning sunshine and the vibe of expectation and appreciation that only an Italian crowd can bring.

“I was disappointed because I think that I had the rhythm to win the race,” Rins admitted in recovering and registering fourth place but just 0.5 from the rear wheel of Petrucci after the showdown. “But, anyway, we finished in fourth at a track where we struggle a lot because of this long straight.”

“A lot of races to do,” he reflected. “We are always strong in the second part of the championship. So I will try to do my maximum, I try to do my 100% every race. Here we beat some Ducatis and we beat some Hondas, so it's OK.”

The Rossi family were well represented in other forms however.

Marini’s runner-up slot was his first podium appearance of 2019 and done in timely fashion for his team. “This was my biggest dream as a child!” Luca said. “I saw my brother’s races here and I always wanted to be on the podium, just one time, so this is unbelievable. I’m really proud of the work we have done because we had a test at Barcelona after Le Mans and changed everything for Mugello and I had a totally different feeling.”

From one furnace to another: the Mediterranean sunshine will (should) grace the next round of MotoGP as the series drifts a short distance west and to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Cataluyna.
