It’s been a little while now since Monster Energy’s Rick Monroe released his latest album “Smoke Out The Window”. One of country music’s hardest working hustlers has been all over the country promoting his latest effort, including a performance at the esteemed CMA Fest. In an effort to keep his set list fresh and exciting, Rick has announced a recorded version of his take on Motörhead’s classic, “Ace Of Spades”. Monster Energy spoke to Rick about the decision to record one of their favorite rock classics.
“We didn’t take covering the iconic Motörhead song Ace of Spades lightly.” Says Monroe, “With the help of Producer Mike Puwal (Insane Clown Posse, Zug Island) & Zack Stewart (Josh Thompson, Jerrod Niemann) on drums I feel like we found that perfect blend of country & metal.”
“With everyone in modern country rushing to a more pop sound we decided to go the other direction. I called it “Hillbilly Metal.” said Rick. Perhaps one of the most special things about Rick Monroe’s ode to Motörhead, and the late Lemmy Kilmister, was that Lemmy actually watched Rick perform their song. “Lemmy saw us do it live, which always takes people by surprise & gave it his stamp of Metal Royalty approval. We aren't moving away from the "Smoke Out the Window" sound, we are just trying to kick up a little musical dust. We did our best to keep the track as live and raw as we possible."
While the song has made an appearance in Rick Monroe’s set over the past few years, now fans can enjoy it whenever they like! “I hope Motörhead fans dig that we are trying to turn a difference genre in to the awesomeness that is Lemmy Kilmister & Motörhead. “Cause that’s the way I like it baby..
