Weekend Recap: October 2 - 3

Round 15 of 18 for the 201 MotoGP World Championship, Austin, Texas’ Circuit of the Americas played host to the Grand Prix of the Americas on Sunday afternoon. Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) extended his World Championship lead with a second-place finish and Monster Energy’s Francesco Bangnaia rounded out the podium in third.  Quartararo has a 52-point championship points lead and can clinch the Championship at the next race.


The MXGP of Germany raced at the 1,590-meter hardpack Talkessel Circuit in Teutschenthal, Germany on Sunday, the 25thanniversary of the GP. In MX2 World Championship racing it was Maxime Renaux of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 Team finishing runner-up on Sunday afternoon, and in doing so, Renaux now extends his lead in the World Championship by a massive margin of 84 points. In the fight for the MXGP World Championship, Romain Febvre of the Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team had an excellent afternoon in Germany. The French racer placing third overall and now just a scant margin of seven points out of the World Championship lead.



The 2021 Motul FIM Superbike World Championship hosted the Motul Portugal Round at the Algarve International Circuit over the weekend, the 2.853-mile, 15-turn circuit producing excellent racing. In Saturday’s opening 20-lap race, championship challenger Jonathan Rea of the powerful Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK crashed out while championship leader Toprak Razgatlioglu claimed victory. Meanwhile, Monster Energy’s Scott Redding guided his Racing Ducati to fighting runner-up finish. In Sunday morning’s WorldSBK Superpole race it was Monster Energy racer Michael Van Der Mark racing to victory for the BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team. Waiting precisely 2,994 days, it was the German bike maker’s first triumph since the Nürburgring in 2013. Lastly from Portimao, it was Monster Energy’s Jonathan Rea bouncing back in spectacular fashion to handily win the third and final race of the weekend. Scott Redding was, yet again, the second-place finisher. In the fierce fight for the 2021 WorldSBK Championship, Toprak Razgatlioglu leads the way with 478 points. Rea sits a very close second at 454 points. Redding, through amazing consistency, is third in the title race with 424 points.



Monster Energy Speedway Grand Prix powered into the Ewinner Torun FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland over the weekend, GPs run at the Marian Rose MotoArena in Torun, Poland. Over the two evenings of competition, Monster Energy rider Tai Woffinden earned third place and seventh finishes. Monster Energy’s Freddie Lindgren also competed in Poland, Swedish rider Lindgren finishing 10th overall in Saturday night’s racing.



The trans-American ARCA Series competed on the paved half-mile Salem Speedway on Saturday with the Sioux Chief PowerPEX 200. Ty Gibbs in the No. 18 Monster Energy Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing drove a magnificent race to not only finish runner-up but also clinched the prestigious 2021 Sioux Chief Showdown championship.



Sam Hill, professional enduro mountain biker and multiple MTB World Champion takes third place in the Vittoria EWS-E Tweed Valley race event in Scotland on Thursday. In his career-first start on an electric bike, the 36-year-old from Perth, Australia, finished the demanding 57-kilometer race (35.5 miles) on the Enduro World Series (EWS) with a 0:41:27.29 total time.
